FAQ

FAQ

What should I bring to class?

Wear long pants and closed toed shoes, and if you have long hair, please tie it back.  Please, no perfume.  The only thing you need to bring to class is an apron if you want to wear one and be sure to bring a pen to take some notes.  If you want to write notes on paper, bring paper, or you can write on the handouts.  We will provide everything else, including a packet of recipes.

Where do I park?

We have metered parking in front of the school.  The cost is $1 an hour and $2 buys you two hours.  It’s relaxed enough to feed the meters during class. At night and on Sundays, you can park at any meter for free.  We share a small parking lot on the east end of the building with the other tenants.  If you can find a spot there, take it!

Can I bring food home?

No.  You may eat the food prepared in the class while you are here, but food does not leave the premises.  We do make exceptions for some of the baking classes.

Are your professional classes only for professionals?

No!  Our professional cooking and baking classes are for people who want to be professional cooks or who just want to understand the techniques needed to cook or bake like a professional at home.  The only thing we require is that you know that you love to cook.

Before signing up for a professional class, can I observe a class?

Yes!  Call the office to schedule a time.  310-842-9702.

Do you give certification in the professional classes?

Our program is part time, so it is not possible to be accredited.  We do however, teach the techniques you need to get a job.  Potential employers are more concerned with your skills than with your diploma, and will typically ask you to do a trial shift before they hire you.  We can give you those skills.

Can I take Pro I and Pro Baking at the same time?

Yes!

Should I bring my own knives to the knife skills class?

No, we provide knives here.

Do I need to know how to cook before taking a recreational class?

No, the recreational classes are open to any experience level.  That said, the very best place to start if you are a beginner is with a knife skills class or Basic Cooking.  Most specialty classes assume a basic level of proficiency and term recognition.

Can I tour the school?

Our school is a single kitchen classroom and thus a tour takes about 3 minutes.  You can see photographs of the classroom on this website and if you’d like to sit in on a professional class, please call us.
